PARK LANE TIME FOR ANOTHER STAYCATION STORY.

The next edition to our Staycation story involves the BMW 5 Series Touring, two inflatable kayaks and the city of Bath.

Thu 19 August 2021
Bath is just under a hundred miles from London and is situated on the River Avon. This is a commonly visited city for Londoners looking for a weekend away.

Rob, our Marketing Manager recently took the 5 Touring down to Bath for a weekend and here is his guide from his visit. As always, if you are interested in visiting this city, or from anything in this article, don't hesitate to get in touch, or follow any of the links in this article.

Here are some of my recommended things to do in Bath. I have picked some of my favourites, and you can see some obvious ones not included:

  • The Roman Baths, if it is your first time in Bath, you have to do the Roman Baths. But with the main attractions come the crowds, you'll need a few hours to have a walk through the baths and learn about how they were built.
  • The Royal Cresent, again a must do to learn about this iconic spot in Bath and is a great example of Georgian architecture with the 30 terraced houses. Definitley worth a visit if its your first visit, but expect some crowds and tour buses at the bottom of the cresent.

But my picks from our weekend are here:

We jetted off from London on a Friday night with another couple and headed for Bath. The drive is mainly motorway and was simple, just under two hours and we were in Somerset, feeling a million miles from the busy London streets.

We stayed just outside Bath for ease and gave us the flexibility of going for a nice walk and also a relax and retreat.

We kayaked along the local canals and rivers, and just make sure you have got any relevant licences before you paddle!

There are great few pubs we stopped for a pit stop on our trip, but our favourite was Cross Guns Avoncliff. A dog-friendly pub on the river with fantastic views and an outside area to chill after a few hours on the river.

After our kayak we headed into the city for the evening. The city can get busy so do ensure you book a spot for food to avoid dissapointment.

Even though it's a city break, Bath is surrounded by rolling hills, and one of my best recommendations is to do the Skyline walk. The iconic walk gets you up out of the city, giving you a skyline view of the cathedral spires and the river and city streets below.  The walk will last a few hours and is hilly, so make sure you prepare and have some snacks with you, and maybe some good shoes!
